Rea Vaya to run special bus service for Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium

The City of Johannesburg will deploy special Rea Vaya buses on 26 April 2026 to transport fans to the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The City of Johannesburg has announced a special Rea Vaya bus service for soccer fans attending the highly anticipated Soweto Derby on Sunday, 26 April 2026.

The match between Orlando Pirates FC and Kaizer Chiefs FC will take place at FNB Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

Special bus routes will operate from key areas including Sandton, Alexandra, Cresta, Yeoville, Parktown, Florida North, the Johannesburg CBD, and various parts of Soweto. Fans travelling from Sandton and Alexandra can use T4 buses to Library Gardens, where they will connect to T1 and C1 routes heading to the stadium.

To accommodate the expected crowds, T4 buses will run every five minutes from 11:00 between Sandton, Alexandra, and the Joburg CBD. The Rea Vaya station at FNB Stadium will open from 10:00.

Supporters using T3 buses from the CBD and Braamfontein will be able to connect at the Orlando Stadium station to reach FNB Stadium at no additional cost.

The city has urged fans to travel early to avoid delays and ensure smooth entry before kick-off. For safety reasons, alcohol will not be allowed on buses or at stations.

After the match, buses departing from FNB Stadium will run at five-minute intervals to transport fans back to their destinations. Services from the stadium will end at 19:00, while the last T4 bus from the CBD to Alexandra and Sandton will depart Library Gardens at 20:00.

Fans can use Rea Vaya account-based ticketing cards, available at all stations for R40. Travel costs to the stadium range from R14 from Thokoza Park and Park Station, to R19 from Sandton and Alexandra.

The city has encouraged supporters to load enough funds for return trips and future travel.
