Ramaphosa appoints Puleng Dimpane as acting SAPS Commissioner
President Cyril Ramaphosa names Lt-Gen Puleng Dimpane as Acting National Police Commissioner following the suspension of Fannie Masemola.
Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane has been appointed as Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, the president Cyril Ramaphosa announced her appointment on Thursday.
Dimpane, who currently serves as the Divisional Commissioner for Financial Management Services, brings close to two decades of experience in policing, governance, and financial management. She is widely regarded as a seasoned professional with a strong reputation for integrity and leadership.
Her appointment comes after National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola was placed on precautionary suspension following his appearance at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
Masemola is facing charges related to the alleged contravention of the Public Finance Management Act. Authorities said the decision to suspend him was taken in light of the seriousness of the charges and the importance of maintaining public confidence in the police service.
Dimpane is expected to be supported by an experienced leadership team as she leads the police service through this challenging period, with officials expressing confidence in her ability to ensure stability and continuity.
