Jeep recalls 469 Grand Cherokee and Wrangler vehicles over safety concerns

The National Consumer Commission has announced the recall of 469 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler vehicles sold in South Africa between 2022 and 2024 due to potential safety-related defects.
The recall affects 354 Grand Cherokee models and 115 Wrangler vehicles after faults linked to seatbelt warning systems and instrument panel displays were identified, potentially increasing safety risks for drivers and passengers.
In a statement on Tuesday the commission said that the affected Grand Cherokee WL Series vehicles may experience erratic illumination of the driver seatbelt warning indicator caused by the airbag controller. Under certain conditions, the warning system may fail to properly alert drivers when seatbelts are not fastened, potentially reducing occupant protection in the event of a crash.
The affected Grand Cherokee vehicles were sold nationally during 2023.
Meanwhile, the recall also affects certain Wrangler models sold between 2022 and 2024. The supplier identified that the instrument panel cluster in these vehicles may go blank, which could prevent important driving information such as warning lights and speedometer readings from being displayed to the driver.
The commission warned that the fault may increase safety risks while operating the vehicle.
Owners of the affected vehicles have been urged to take their vehicles to authorised Jeep dealerships for inspection and necessary software updates at no cost.
The NCC said it will continue monitoring the recall process in line with the Consumer Protection Act.
