HONOR and ACT empower Young Women in Tech at Girls in ICT Day Event
HONOR South Africa and ACT joined forces in Bryanston to inspire and equip young women with digital skills, marking International Girls in ICT Day.
HONOR and Association of Comms and Technology (ACT) have partnered to empower young women in technology through a landmark event held in Bryanston, in celebration of International Girls in ICT Day.
Under the theme “AI for Development – Girls Shaping the Digital Future,” the initiative aims to expand access to digital skills, inspire innovation, and position young women at the forefront of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
The event brought together government leaders, industry experts, and aspiring young minds, all focused on addressing the gender gap in STEM fields, where women still represent less than a third of the global workforce.
Opening the event, Zhou Lefeng encouraged attendees to embrace innovation and think boldly about their future. He highlighted the importance of young people as active contributors to today’s digital transformation.
Delivering the keynote address, Solly Malatsi stressed the need for inclusivity in the tech sector, calling for more opportunities for young women to enter and lead in ICT.
Echoing this message, Nomvuyiso Batyi urged participants to remain curious and ambitious, emphasising that success is driven by attitude and a willingness to explore beyond surface-level technology.
The programme featured a range of impactful sessions, including insights from Sanum Singh and a practical workshop on AI in mobile technology, delivered in collaboration with the Siyafunda Training Centre.
Participants engaged in hands-on learning experiences designed to provide both inspiration and practical skills, ensuring they leave better equipped to navigate and shape the digital economy.
As South Africa continues to grow its digital capabilities, the partnership between HONOR and ACT highlights the importance of investing in young women.
By equipping them with the right tools and opportunities, the initiative is helping to build a more inclusive, innovative future in technology.
