A 58-year-old Dobsonville man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, where the case was postponed. His arrest followed a widely circulated video. A case against a 58-year-old Dobsonville man accused of rape was postponed at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The accused, described as a pastor, allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old girl at his home over the Easter weekend. He was arrested after a video linked to the incident circulated widely on social media.
Outside the court, community members, school learners and parents gathered in protest, demanding justice for the child. Public order police were deployed as large crowds formed, and court gates were temporarily closed to manage access after some protesters attempted to force their way inside.
Political parties including the EFF, ANC, DA and BOSA joined community members protesting outside, demanding justice.
The case has been postponed to 22 April 2026.
Meanwhile, the leadership and members of ELCSA Lefika Parish in Dobsonville, Soweto, has expressed deep sadness over allegations that a young girl was raped by one of the Prayer Men’s League members. They have urged the public to stop sharing the video on social media, as it further harms the child and her family.
