Parents are urged to submit late applications urgently as the deadline for 2026 school placements in the Western Cape closes on Tuesday evening.
Western Cape Education have issued an urgent reminder to parents that the on-time application window for Grade R, 1 and 8 placements for the 2027 academic year closes at midnight on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Minister of Education in the province, David Maynier has called on parents who have not yet applied to do so immediately, warning that delays could impact placement planning.
“The on-time application window for a place in Grade R, 1 and 8 in the Western Cape next year closes at midnight tonight, Tuesday 14 April 2026,” said Maynier.
The department said more than 158 000 learners have already submitted applications. However, there are still 10 073 Grade 7 learners whose parents have not yet applied for placement next year.
“While the number of current Grade 7s with no application submitted for next year has come down nicely, there are still 10 073 Grade 7s whose parents have not yet applied,” Maynier said.
He urged parents not to delay the process any further, stressing the importance of timely applications in ensuring adequate school placement planning.
“We urge these parents to apply immediately to help us plan for a place for their children next year. Don’t wait! Apply today before the midnight deadline.”
