Mgudlwa distances Anele Mdoda from R14 million PPE controversy, saying she has no involvement in the matter.
Bonelela Mgudlwa has distanced his wife, media personality Anele Mdoda (Mgudlwa), from the matter after she faced social media backlash following a Special Tribunal ruling ordering him and his business partner to repay more than R14 million linked to two 2020 Covid-19 PPE contracts.
"Firstly, I categorically state that Anele has no connection whatsoever to the events under scrutiny. The matters in question relate to my business activities in 2020, whereas my relationship with Anele only commenced in mid-2024 and culminated in our marriage in 2025," said Mgudlwa in a statement on Saturday.
"Any suggestion of her involvement is factually incorrect, malicious, reckless and unfair, and must be rejected outright. Anele is an accomplished professional in her own right and deserves to be entirely free from association with this matter."
He called on the media, stakeholders and the public to act responsibly and fairly in their commentary, prioritising accuracy and avoiding implicating individuals who are not involved.
This comes after the Special Tribunal ruled last week that the contracts awarded to their company, Tark Group Pty Ltd (formerly Tuwo Rhodesia), were constitutionally invalid and void from the outset.
Mgudlwa said Covid-19 PPE contracts scandal Mgudlwa said the products he supplied during covid-19 met all required specifications, were accepted and utilised, and there was no evidence of any financial loss to the State.
“I had the requisite logistics capacity to distribute efficiently and the operational capability to deliver at scale. I participated in an RFQ procurement process initiated and overseen by the Department of Health, supplying products to a duly authorised and SAHPRA-licensed depot management entity responsible for receipt, quality testing and approval,” he said
Mgudlwa rejected the findings of the Tribunal saying he would appeal before the High Court, where all relevant issues will be fully ventilated. Adding that this was a State-led procurement process, and the role of the Department remains central to the issues in dispute.
“From my family upbringing and the values instilled in me, I remain grounded in integrity, accountability and faith. It is through that foundation that I trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, confident that truth, justice and restoration will ultimately prevail,” he concluded.
