Tributes pour in for Jayden Adams following his tragic death at 25

The South African football fraternity has been united in grief following the tragic death of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams at the age of 25.

Mamelodi Sundowns confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement on Saturday, expressing profound sorrow over the passing of the talented midfielder.

The club extended its deepest condolences to Adams' family and friends, with Chairman Patrice Motsepe, the Motsepe family, the board, technical team, players, management, staff, supporters and the entire Yellow Nation joining in mourning his loss.

"We pray that the Almighty God comforts and strengthens the Adams family, his friends and everyone that knew him," the club said, while also appealing for the family's privacy to be respected during this difficult time.

Tributes poured in from across the football community, with the South African Football Players Union describing Adams' death as a devastating loss for the country.

"Death has cruelly stolen one of our own. It has robbed our nation of a remarkable footballer, but it will never take away the legacy Jayden Adams leaves behind. We will forever remember his humility, his extraordinary talent and the pride with which he represented South Africa," the union said.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also paid tribute, writing: "Football has lost one of its own. Rest in peace, Jayden Adams."

South Africa national soccer team honoured the midfielder, saying South African football had lost a gifted player whose passion, commitment and love for the game inspired many.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, teammates and everyone affected by this devastating loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace. You will never be forgotten, Jayden," the national team said.

Adams' former club, Stellenbosch FC, reflected on his remarkable journey from a teenage prospect to one of the country's finest midfielders.

The club noted that Adams made his professional debut at just 19 years old before making 139 senior appearances and helping Stellenbosch lift the Carling Knockout trophy in 2023.

Following his move to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2025, Adams continued to impress and recently represented South Africa at the FIFA World Cup in North America.

Describing him as "a proud flagbearer for the Cape Winelands", Stellenbosch FC said Adams had left an enduring legacy both at the club and in South African football.

"He will be deeply missed, and never forgotten," the club said.
