South Africa's rugby fraternity is mourning the heartbreaking loss of former South African Rugby Under-18 prop Luqobo "Bibo" Makwedini, who died after collapsing during a training session in France.
Makwedini, 20, was training with French club AS Béziers Hérault at the Stade de la Gayonne on Friday morning when he collapsed at the end of the session. He was rushed to hospital but sadly died a few hours later.
French media reports and statements from his club indicated that Makwedini suffered a cardiac arrest. However, his family said they had been informed that his sudden death was the result of heat stroke.
The talented prop, affectionately known as "Bibo", was regarded as one of South Africa's promising young rugby players, having represented the country at Under-18 level before pursuing his professional career in France.
Tributes have poured in from across the rugby community, with many remembering Makwedini not only for his talent on the field but also for his character and dedication to the sport.
