Shebeshxt remains in custody

Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, known as Shebeshxt, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case has been postponed to 25 November for a formal bail application, and he remains in custody.

Controversial Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, known as Shebeshxt, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case has been postponed to 25 November for a formal bail application, and Chauke remains in custody.

The charges relate to an incident on 19 October along Witklip Street in Ladanna, Polokwane. Court documents allege that the complainant and a friend were driving past when they greeted Chauke as fans. The musician allegedly responded by asking, “Kgane aletlale ka nna?” before firing a shot.

The bullet struck the complainant in the jaw and shattered the window of a Nissan vehicle belonging to the witness. The injured person was taken to Polokwane Provincial Hospital for urgent treatment.

Chauke was arrested on 12 November following an intensive investigation. He is already facing other pending charges in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court, including two counts of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and malicious damage to property. That trial is scheduled for 17 to 19 February 2026, and he is currently out on R5 000 bail in that matter.

Regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, (NPA) Mashudu Malabi, said the case in Polokwane is being treated with urgency due to the seriousness of the allegations. She said the NPA is committed to ensuring that justice is served while the investigation continues.

Chauke appeared briefly in court on Friday and did not speak to the media. The matter will return to court next week for a formal bail hearing.

The case has drawn attention to the growing concerns over violent incidents involving public figures and has prompted calls for strict enforcement of firearm regulations.
