Sergeant Fanie Nkosi faces additional charges
Fannie Nkosi, who is already in custody, has been hit with additional charges of defeating and obstructing the course of justice following allegations linked to the handling of a 2022 arrest involving dagga, unlicensed firearms, and explosives. The case is expected to return to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 15 May 2026.
The Commission’s Recommendations Investigative Task Team has laid additional charges of defeating and obstructing the course of justice against Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, who is already in custody.
Nkosi is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 15 May 2026.
“It is alleged that on 10 November 2022, a suspect was arrested for possession of dagga, unlicensed firearms, and explosives,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
Mathe said Nkosi later collected the original case docket under the pretext that he had been sent by the Head Office.
A few months after the initial arrest, Nkosi allegedly returned to Thohoyandou, introduced himself as a colonel from Head Office, and removed confiscated dagga from police custody. The exhibit was later reportedly booked in at Head Office; however, it was discovered that one of the exhibit bags containing the dagga had been tampered with.
Mathe said that a case of defeating and obstructing the course of justice for further investigation has been opened.
Nkosi is currently in custody after bail was denied last month. He is facing multiple charges, including unlawful possession of explosives, three counts of failure to safeguard firearms, eight counts of failure to safeguard ammunition, defeating the administration of justice, failure to maintain a safe in accordance with SABS 953-1/2 standards, theft, and money laundering.
