Pretoria West detectives arrested for corruption and extortion
Three detectives attached to the Pretoria West police station have been arrested following an undercover operation by the National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit after they allegedly extorted money from suspects linked to a kidnapping case.
Three detectives stationed at the Pretoria West police station were arrested on Thursday, 14 May 2026, following an undercover operation conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit.
The suspects, identified as two sergeants and a constable, are facing charges of corruption and extortion.
According to a preliminary report, the officers allegedly demanded and received money from two suspects connected to a kidnapping case that they were investigating.
Police said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to root out corruption within law enforcement agencies.
The trio is expected to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court next week on charges of corruption and extortion.
