SAPS Smithfield and local faith leaders united on the N6 for a heartfelt roadside prayer, calling for safer roads, peace, and crime-free communities as the festive season kicks off.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Smithfield, Free State on Tuesday joined forces with local faith-based organisations in a powerful roadside prayer session along the busy N6, seeking divine intervention and promoting road safety, peace, and crime prevention as the festive season begins.
The gathering brought together church leaders, pastors, congregants, community members, and various stakeholder groups in a united call for safer roads and responsible behaviour. With December traditionally marked by high traffic volumes, heightened social activity, and a spike in both road accidents and crime, authorities and community structures are intensifying awareness efforts.
SAPS Smithfield said the initiative aims to encourage motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution, remain alert, and respect the rules of the road. The prayer session also highlighted the need for community solidarity in combating crime and promoting peace during a period often marred by preventable incidents.
Officers emphasised that collaboration between law enforcement and community organisations is essential to reducing fatalities and ensuring that residents and travellers reach their destinations safely.
