A group of prominent Afrikaners has openly condemned former US President Donald Trump’s proposed refugee policy, branding it racist and contrary to democratic values. In statements released this week, they argue that barring migrants based on origin or ethnicity perpetuates discrimination and undermines commitments to human dignity.
They point out that such selective bans echo historical injustices by privileging certain nationalities over others. The group emphasised that refugee policy should be grounded in universal human rights—not politicised exclusion.
According to them, a policy that favours migrants from some countries while excluding others is inherently unjust. They urged US policymakers to reconsider framing decisions through lenses of race or religion rather than need and vulnerability.
At the same time, they cautioned against hypocrisy, observing that nations with histories of racial division should be especially careful when designing immigration criteria. They insisted that moral leadership demands consistent treatment of all people seeking safety.
Ultimately, the Afrikaners called for refugee frameworks guided by compassion and equity, rejecting any approach they perceive as discriminatory.
