Police hunt woman suspect in Lephalale vehicle finance fraud case
Police are appealing to the public for help in locating a 37-year-old woman linked to a vehicle finance fraud involving a Ford Ranger.
Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for 37-year-old Cynthia Kgwete, who is believed to be able to assist in an ongoing fraud investigation involving a vehicle finance scheme.
In a statement the police said the case was opened by Nedbank on Monday, 02 February 2026, after the bank uncovered irregularities linked to a vehicle purchase.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly posed as a legitimate client and applied for vehicle finance to acquire a Ford Ranger Double Cab.
During the application process, Kgwete is accused of submitting false documentation and misrepresenting her employment status and income in order to secure approval. The application was subsequently approved, and the vehicle was released to her.
Authorities later discovered that the tracking device installed in the bakkie had been removed shortly after it left the dealership. No instalment payments were made towards the vehicle, prompting further investigation by the bank, which confirmed it had been defrauded.
Police investigations also revealed that the suspect provided false residential and work addresses in Gauteng. A warrant for her arrest has since been issued.
Members of the public who may have information on her whereabouts are urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Simon Tjatjie Kekana, on 078 472 0505, call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, visit their nearest police station, or share information via the MySAPS App.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
