Musician Shebeshxt’s bail bid has been pushed to 27 November after prosecutors added six new charges, upgrading the case to Schedule 6. His defence says it was blindsided, while the state argues the allegations, including attempted murder and firearm violations — warrant his continued detention.
Limpopo artist Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke returned to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday only to face another setback, as his bail hearing was postponed yet again after prosecutors introduced six additional charges against him.
The new charges dramatically escalate the case, with the state confirming that the matter has now been upgraded to a Schedule 6 offence — the most serious category under South African bail law. This means Shebeshxt will have to prove exceptional circumstances to secure his release.
His legal representative, Advocate Lot Ramusi, told the court they were “ambushed” by the late filing of the new charges and needed time to prepare. The magistrate agreed, pushing the bail hearing to 27 November at 14:00. Until then, Shebeshxt will remain in custody.
The musician had already been facing three counts of attempted murder, malicious damage to property and possession of an unlicensed firearm, stemming from an October road-rage incident in which he allegedly fired multiple shots at another driver in Ladanna.
The state says the latest charges form part of a consolidated case that merges older matters with the recent incident, painting a broader pattern of alleged criminal behaviour. Security around the courthouse was heightened, reflecting the public interest and the sensitivity of the matter.
