Most wanted suspect Sifiso “Coach” Malwane killed in KZN
A man linked to multiple murders, including that of a cross-border crime fighter, has been killed after a botched house robbery in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Sifiso “Coach” Malwane, one of the notorious Malwane brothers who had been on the police’s most wanted list, was shot and killed during a house robbery in the Thengani area under the Emanguzi policing precinct.
on Sunday night, 19 April 2026, Malwane and an accomplice allegedly broke into a home armed with firearms and demanded vehicle keys from the homeowner. The victim reportedly reached for his own firearm and opened fire, forcing the suspects to flee. Malwane, also known as “Mlungu”, was wounded during the exchange but managed to escape.
The following day, members of the Emanguzi Cross Border Intervention Team received information about the unlawful disposal of a body at Umgodiwemvubu. Investigations confirmed the body was that of Malwane, who had succumbed to his injuries.
Police believe Malwane was secretly buried by his brother, Musa Malwane, who is also wanted for multiple murders and cross-border crimes. The two are linked to the killing of cross-border crime fighter Sipho Juda Mthethwa, as well as the murder of traditional healer James Mthembu.
Authorities later exhumed Malwane’s body as part of ongoing investigations.
The search for Musa Malwane continues, and police say an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice may be added to his list of alleged crimes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police via the CrimeStop number 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS app.
