MISA urges calm after fatal Emmarentia road rage shooting
The Motor Industry Staff Association has called on motorists to remain calm and avoid confrontation following a deadly road rage incident in Emmarentia.
The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) has urged South African motorists to exercise restraint on the roads following a tragic road rage shooting in Emmarentia.
The call comes after 48-year-old Faisal ul Rehman was killed on Sunday when a minor collision on Barry Hertzog Avenue escalated into a violent confrontation between two drivers.
The footage shows the men engaged in a physical fight before shots were fired.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has since decided not to prosecute the 58-year-old suspect for now, pending further investigation.
NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said the decision followed careful consideration of the evidence. The suspect’s legal team argued he acted in self-defence.
Rehman was laid to rest on Tuesday. MISA extended condolences to his family, highlighting the emotional toll such incidents have on loved ones.
MISA Chief Executive Officer: Operations, Martle Keyter, said the tragedy underscores the dangers of uncontrolled anger on the roads.
The union stressed that road rage is not just a criminal issue but a societal one, calling on motorists to remain patient and avoid escalating conflicts.
MISA has also urged government, civil society, and employers in the motor sector to strengthen awareness campaigns around road safety, emotional control, and stress management to prevent similar incidents in future.
