MK Party member Penny Penny resigns from party and Parliament
Gezane Erick Kobane, also known as Penny Penny, has announced his resignation from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and Parliament, citing betrayal, political attacks and a lack of support within the party’s Limpopo structures.
Gezane Erick Kobane, popularly known as Penny Penny, has resigned from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and Parliament.
In a resignation letter dated 15 May 2026 and addressed to former President Jacob Zuma, Kobane confirmed that he was stepping down from both the organisation and his parliamentary role.
Kobane, who served as an MK Party representative from Limpopo, said he joined the party voluntarily and remained committed to serving the people despite facing political challenges.
In the letter, he alleged that he had been subjected to attacks, vilification and belittlement by individuals within the party’s Limpopo structures.
He further claimed that he endured the treatment in the hope that the party would eventually recognise and address what he described as betrayal and reputational harm.
“When I took the decision to join the party, I did so knowing that the struggle to attain the emancipation of our people would come at a cost,” Kobane wrote.
Despite his resignation, Kobane thanked Zuma for the opportunity to serve in Parliament and be part of the MK Party.
“I wish the party well,” he concluded.
