MEC Siboniso Duma Sends Condolences After Two Pilots Die in Separate KZN Plane Crashes Johannesburg - KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has expressed his condolences to the families of two pilots who lost their lives in separate light aircraft crashes near Nottingham Road and north of Boston.
According to the Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division of the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), both planes had departed from Secunda Airport flying in loose formation towards Margate Regional Airport before the accidents occurred.
Duma said he has instructed his office to offer support to the affected families. “We want to assist in every possible way to help ease the burden on both families,” he stated.
The Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC) confirmed that a preliminary report on the causes of the crashes will be released within 30 days.
Chief of Operations Gregory Critchley said that both the SACAA and the South African Police Service (SAPS) are leading the investigations. “The first aircraft was located on Wednesday evening, and investigators from the Civil Aviation Authority, together with the SAPS, have commenced their work to determine the cause of the accidents,” Critchley said.
He added that the findings from the initial investigation would be made public once the 30-day report is completed.
