Masemola to join Matlala in dock as Medicare 24 tender case postponed
The National Police Commissioner is expected to appear alongside multiple accused in a high-stakes corruption case linked to a R228 million contract.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is set to join alleged underworld kingpin, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala in the dock when the Medicare 24 tender case returns to court next month.
Masemola briefly appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, where he faces four counts of allegedly contravening the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The matter was postponed to 13 May 2026 to allow for further investigations and for Masemola to be formally joined with 16 other accused implicated in the same case.
The charges stem from the alleged irregular awarding of a contract worth approximately R228 million to Medicare 24, a company owned by Matlala. Authorities allege that proper procurement processes may not have been followed in securing the lucrative deal.
Masemola is expected to appear alongside Matlala and the other accused when proceedings resume, marking a significant development in the widening case.
Speaking after his court appearance, Masemola maintained his innocence, adding that he supports the continued work of the task team investigating organised crime.
