Full Report
KwaZulu‑Natal police have announced they will clarify several issues regarding investigations highlighted by the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. The commission is examining allegations of corruption, interference, and mishandling of criminal investigations within the province.
Central to the inquiry are 121 dockets linked to political murders, attempted murders, and other serious crimes. These files were initially handled by the KZN Political Killings Task Team but were later transferred to national office, raising questions about delays and accountability.
KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi told the commission that while some of the dockets were ready for arrests, no action had been taken before their transfer. Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that operational work on the dockets continues, and that copies have been provided to the commission to ensure their work is unhindered.
