The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) has expressed sadness at the death of well-known journalist, author and anti-apartheid activist Terry Bell, who passed away at the age of 84.

During his long career, he worked as a journalist and wrote books about labour struggles, politics and the everyday lives of workers. His work helped record important parts of South Africa’s history.
Bell also made an impact internationally. He supported global efforts against apartheid, including campaigns to boycott South African rugby teams and protests in New Zealand.
