Glynnis Breytenbach appointed DA Chief Whip in Parliament
The Democratic Alliance has appointed Adv Glynnis Breytenbach as its new Chief Whip in the National Assembly, describing her as an experienced parliamentarian who will play a key role in negotiations within the Government of National Unity.
The Democratic Alliance has announced the appointment of Adv Glynnis Breytenbach as the party’s new Chief Whip in the National Assembly.
George Michalakis, who recently became the party’s Parliamentary Leader made the announcement on Monday.
Michalakis said Breytenbach brings 12 years of parliamentary experience to the position, along with decades of experience as a senior state prosecutor.
“She will be the custodian of Parliament’s rules and procedures on the part of the DA,” Michalakis said.
He added that Breytenbach will also serve as one of the party’s chief negotiators within the Government of National Unity (GNU) alongside him.
Breytenbach has served as the DA’s spokesperson on justice throughout her time in Parliament. Michalakis said her appointment signals the party’s commitment to prioritising safety and security issues in Parliament, in line with the vision of DA Federal Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis.
The party said Breytenbach will work closely with Deputy Chief Whip Bax Nodada and will help oversee the party’s parliamentary caucus, including National Assembly and National Council of Provinces members.
Michalakis said the party believes the leadership team will form a “formidable” unit in Parliament.
The DA caucus also wished Breytenbach success in her new role.
