Gauteng residents urged to use clinics for SASSA disability grant medical forms
The Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness is encouraging people applying for SASSA disability grants to visit clinics and Community Health Centres for medical verification forms, instead of hospitals where fees may apply.
The Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness has urged residents applying for disability grants through the South African Social Security Agency to use local clinics and Community Health Centres (CHCs) to complete medical verification forms required for applications.
According to the department, some applicants are unnecessarily visiting hospitals to have the forms completed, which may result in them being charged administrative fees in line with the Uniform Patient Fee Schedule (UPFS).
Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Faith Mazibuko, said clinics and CHCs provide the service free of charge and are better equipped to assist communities without placing additional financial pressure on residents.
“We want to make it easier for disability grant applicants to access the assistance they need. Clinics and CHCs are closer to communities and are better placed to assist with SASSA-related forms without placing an additional financial burden on applicants,” said Mazibuko.
She also appealed to residents to reserve hospitals for cases that require specialised medical care.
The department further advised applicants to bring their relevant SASSA documents, identity document and any available medical records when visiting health facilities to ensure forms are completed accurately.
