Putco announced 10% fare increase from June
Commuters using Putco buses will soon pay more for transport after the company confirmed a 10% fare increase set to take effect from 1 June 2026.
Bus operator Putco has announced a 10% increase in fares, citing rising operational costs and fuel price hikes.
In a passenger notice issued on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the company said it had delayed increasing fares for several months despite escalating costs in the transport industry.
Putco said the increase was a difficult but necessary decision to ensure it can continue providing reliable and safe transport services to commuters.
According to the notice, the new fares will apply to all trips purchased from 1 June 2026, while all trip validity periods will remain unchanged.
The company added that posters detailing the exact rand value increases for different routes would be displayed inside buses by Friday, 22 May 2026.
Putco also reassured passengers that despite the increase, it remains one of the most affordable transport options available.
