Police have arrested a 35-year-old man and seized crystal meth with an estimated street value of R3 million during a targeted operation in Diepsloot on Saturday.
The arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation conducted by Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team and the West Rand K9 Unit on 31 May 2026.
The police said that the information was received about two men allegedly involved in drug dealing activities in the area. Acting on the intelligence, officers identified and searched the premises linked to the suspects.
During the search, police discovered a black refuse bag hidden beneath a mattress containing suspected crystal meth weighing approximately 10 kilograms. The drugs have an estimated street value of about R3 million.
A 35-year-old man who was found at the premises was arrested and charged with possession of drugs. He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 1 June 2026.
Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni welcomed the arrest and commended the officers involved in the operation.
“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable. Drug peddling will not be tolerated in our province,” said Mthombeni.
Police said efforts to track down other individuals linked to the drug operation are continuing.
