MEC Mazibuko to reopen refurbished hospital wards to boost healthcare capacity
Gauteng Health and Wellness MEC Faith Mazibuko will reopen newly refurbished wards at Kopanong District Hospital and unveil an upgraded psychiatric facility at Sebokeng Regional Hospital as part of efforts to improve patient care and increase bed capacity.
Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Faith Mazibuko will on Monday reopen several refurbished wards at Kopanong District Hospital and unveil a newly upgraded male psychiatric ward at Sebokeng Regional Hospital.
The reopening forms part of the Gauteng Department of Health's ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure, increase patient capacity and enhance service delivery across the province.
At Kopanong District Hospital, Mazibuko will officially reopen Wards 1, 2 and 12 following extensive refurbishment and infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening paediatric, medical and psychiatric healthcare services.
Ward 12, a 30-bed paediatric unit, has been renovated to provide a safer and more child-friendly environment for young patients receiving treatment. Ward 1 will resume operations as a female psychiatric ward, while Ward 2 will accommodate medical admissions and help ease overcrowding within the hospital.
The department said that the reopening of the wards will improve patient flow, increase bed capacity and enhance the hospital's ability to deliver quality healthcare services to the communities it serves.
At Sebokeng Regional Hospital, the MEC will unveil a newly upgraded male psychiatric ward designed to improve patient safety, dignity and access to specialised mental healthcare services.
The upgraded facility includes enhancements aimed at supporting rehabilitation, multidisciplinary treatment and compliance with mental healthcare standards.
The department said the projects form part of broader efforts to create safer, more supportive and patient-centred healthcare environments while improving access to quality healthcare services across Gauteng.
