City of Tshwane shuts down dozens of illegal salons in Pretoria CBD enforcement operation

The City of Tshwane has shut down dozens of illegally operating salons during a by-law enforcement operation in the Pretoria CBD, as part of an ongoing crackdown on unregistered businesses.

The operation targeted a well-known building on Madiba Street, where municipal officials found that none of the salons operating inside were registered or in possession of valid trading licences issued by the City.

Speaking during the operation, Tshwane Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya said the City is committed to ensuring that all businesses comply with municipal regulations designed to protect both customers and workers.

"We are in the Pretoria CBD for a special by-law enforcement operation. We've closed down dozens of salons that are operating inside a well-known building located on Madiba Street," said Moya.

"None of the salons operating inside this building are registered or in possession of trading licences issued by the City of Tshwane."

As part of the operation, officers from the Tshwane Metro Police Department also conducted checks on the documentation of foreign nationals operating some of the salons.

Mayor Moya stressed that all business owners, regardless of nationality, are required to comply with the City's by-laws before trading.

"To run a business in Tshwane, you must be issued with a trading licence. The safety of residents, clients and employees must be protected," she said.

She also urged salon owners who are not yet registered to regularise their businesses by visiting the City's licensing offices.

"To operate a business in Tshwane, you must be registered. Salon owners, please visit the City's offices located at the Middestad Building on 252 Thabo Sehume Street in the Pretoria CBD."

The City said the enforcement operation forms part of its broader efforts to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws, promote fair business practices and improve public health and safety standards across the capital.
