Major General Vuyisile Ncata takes over leadership following the retirement of Nomthetheleli Mene.
Major General Vuyisile Ncata has been named the new Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, succeeding Nomthetheleli Mene who retired last year.
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola confirmed Ncata’s appointment on Tuesday, with the role set to take effect from 1 April 2026.
Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata brings more than three decades of distinguished service to his new role, having joined the police as a student constable in 1995.
Born and raised in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha, Ncata began his career at KwaNobuhle police station before joining Public Order Policing, where he later rose to serve as a unit commander. He spent the early years of his career in the Eastern Cape before relocating to the Western Cape, where he was appointed Station Commander at Langa police station in 2011.
He was promoted to Brigadier in 2014 and took command at Nyanga police station, serving extensively in communities heavily affected by gang-related violence. Ncata spent a total of 18 years in the Western Cape.
In 2022, he was elevated to the rank of Major General and returned to the Eastern Cape, where he served as District Commissioner for the Nelson Mandela Bay District, a position he held until his latest appointment.
Ncata holds an Honours degree, a BTech qualification, and a National Diploma in Policing.
