Under fire crime expert Calvin Rafadi has reported that his Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp accounts were hacked by unknown individuals, submitting a sworn affidavit to Meadowlands police station on 5 December 2025. He warned that any activity from the compromised accounts is unauthorised.
Crime expert Calvin Rafadi has opened a case after discovering that his Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp accounts were allegedly hacked by unknown individuals. Rafadi submitted a sworn affidavit to the South African Daily confirming the breach. The affidavit was signed at Meadowlands police station on 5 December 2025.
In the affidavit Rafadi states that he became aware of the possible compromise after a friend alerted him through various social media platforms. He says he believes unauthorised individuals may be using the accounts to carry out fraudulent or criminal activities in his name. He adds that any communication or solicitation from the hacked accounts is not authorised by him.
Rafadi says that as a public intellectual who engages regularly with the public and the media the misuse of his communication platforms poses a risk of deception. He says he has distributed the affidavit to authorities and media outlets to protect the public from possible criminal activity conducted through the compromised accounts.
He further states that he reserves the right to pursue legal or criminal action against anyone involved in the unauthorised access or misuse of his accounts. Rafadi also says he will use his professional expertise to investigate the cyber breach.
The crime expert resigned from the University of Johannesburg in October following allegations of corruption and collusion presented at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. He denied the allegations and said he was unfairly implicated by the commission.
