The accused were present in court and consulted with their legal representatives as proceedings began. The state continues to present evidence, while the defence is preparing to challenge the credibility of witnesses and aspects of the investigation that led to the arrests.
The prosecution has outlined its argument that the accused acted together in the killing of Meyiwa. The defence maintains that its clients were wrongfully implicated. Testimonies and cross-examinations are being closely reviewed by both the court and attending media.
Meyiwa’s family continues to attend the proceedings. The trial relates to Meyiwa’s death in 2014. Investigations and legal proceedings have been ongoing since that time.
