South Africa names a near-full-strength Springbok squad for Saturday’s Test against Ireland in Dublin. Coach Rassie Erasmus says the match is a colossal challenge. Key stars return after being rested against Italy, while RG Snyman earns his 50th cap in what could be a defining encounter.
South Africa head coach Rassie Erasmus has recalled a near-full-strength Springbok squad for the Autumn Series Test against Ireland in Dublin, signalling the importance of the clash. After resting several key players in last week’s win over Italy, Erasmus has reverted to his experienced core, calling the match a “colossal challenge” that demands focus and precision.
Only two changes separate this team from the side that recently defeated France. Ruan Nortje moves into the starting lock position in place of suspended Lood de Jager, while Kwagga Smith returns to the bench. In the backs, Canan Moodie shifts from centre to wing, replacing Kurt-Lee Arendse, who has returned to South Africa following a concussion.
One of the highlights of the line-up is RG Snyman, who will earn his 50th Test cap in Dublin, where he plays his club rugby. Erasmus expressed pride in Snyman’s milestone, emphasising his value both in experience and leadership for the team.
In the forwards, Boan Venter continues at prop, while Siya Kolisi leads the pack from number six. The backline features Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel, with Damian Willemse at fullback, poised to provide stability and tactical control.
Willemse highlighted the challenge posed by Ireland, noting their strength in both forwards and backs and warning that the Boks must be fully focused to secure a victory. Erasmus echoed that sentiment, stressing the need for discipline, composure, and consistency to succeed in a hostile environment and to break South Africa’s winless streak in Dublin.
