Limpopo musician Shebeshxt will remain in custody after the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court postponed his bail application for the third time. Facing a Schedule 6 indictment with multiple serious charges, his defence was given more time to prepare. The next hearing is scheduled for 8 December.
Limpopo artist Shebeshxt, born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, will remain in jail after his bail application was postponed once more. The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court adjourned the hearing to 8 December, granting the defence time to respond to new and enhanced charges against him.
Shebeshxt was first arrested on 12 November in connection with an alleged road-rage shooting on 19 October in Ladanna. Since then, authorities have seized his vehicles for forensic examination. Prosecutors have levied multiple serious charges including attempted murder, armed robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The case has now been upgraded to a Schedule 6 offence under the Criminal Procedure Act, reflecting the gravity of the allegations.
In court, the state argued against bail, pointing to the severity and scale of the charges, and the risk they say the accused poses. The defence team, led by Advocate Lot Ramusi, requested more time to prepare after the sudden addition of fresh counts. The court accepted the request, leading to the latest postponement.
Shebeshxt described himself as the primary provider for his family. Court papers show he supports his unemployed parents, contributes maintenance for his eight-year-old daughter, and expects a baby with a pregnant partner due early December. His lawyers argued these responsibilities warrant bail, but the state remains unconvinced.
