Seven people died after a sedan and a light delivery vehicle collided head-on early Monday morning on the N12 between Ogies and eMalahleni. All occupants of both vehicles perished at the scene. Authorities have launched a full investigation while urging motorists to exercise extreme caution
A tragic crash on the N12 between Ogies and eMalahleni claimed seven lives early Monday when a sedan collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle (LDV). All occupants of both vehicles died at the scene.
The collision occurred at approximately 04:30. According to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the LDV veered off its lane, crossed the median and collided with the sedan travelling in the opposite direction.
The sedan had five occupants, three men and two women, while the LDV carried two men. There were no survivors.
Authorities have said the crash appears to have been caused by loss of control and possibly high speed, but the exact cause remains under investigation by the police, the Road Traffic Management Corporation and provincial safety officials.
Mpumalanga’s MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison has called on all motorists to drive with greatest caution — especially at night and during early morning hours when visibility can be poor — urging drivers to respect speed limits, maintain vehicle roadworthiness, and stay alert on highways.
