SAPS forensic captain nabbed over alleged interference in murder investigations
A SAPS captain attached to the Forensic Science Laboratory has been arrested in Pretoria on allegations of defeating the ends of justice in several high-profile murder investigations linked to evidence before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The Commission’s Recommendations Task Team has arrested a SAPS captain attached to the South African Police Service Forensic Science Laboratory on charges of defeating the ends of justice.
The suspect was arrested at his Pretoria residence on Friday, 22 May 2026, following an investigation by the specialised task team.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said in a statement that the arrest relates to allegations of interference in several high-profile murder investigations, as well as matters connected to evidence presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
During the operation, investigators reportedly seized several items believed to belong to the state, including ballistic reports, ammunition and other evidential material considered relevant to ongoing investigations.
The arrest comes following growing scrutiny of the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory following allegations of corruption, manipulation of forensic evidence and irregularities in ballistic investigations.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 May 2026.
