SAPS appoints Lt Gen Sizakhele Dyantyi as new Western Cape police commissioner
Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi has been appointed as the new Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, bringing 34 years of policing experience as he prepares to lead crime-fighting efforts and strengthen public trust from 1 August 2026.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as the new Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, effective from 1 August 2026.
Dyantyi takes over the role with more than three decades of policing experience, having served for 34 years in various operational and leadership positions across the Eastern and Western Cape. His extensive career includes service at station, district and provincial levels, equipping him with a broad understanding of the policing challenges facing communities.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said the appointment comes at a crucial time for the province, which continues to grapple with complex crime challenges. She expressed confidence that Dyantyi's leadership would help strengthen public confidence in the police while advancing the SAPS Reset Agenda.
SAPS congratulated Lieutenant General Dyantyi on his promotion and appointment, expressing confidence that he will work closely with communities and stakeholders to improve safety and enhance policing across the Western Cape.
