Advocate Dinkie Portia Dube will assume the role of Deputy Public Protector from 1 February 2026, bringing more than two decades of public sector experience to the office.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Advocate Dinkie Portia Dube as the Deputy Public Protector of the Republic of South Africa for a seven-year term, effective from 1 February 2026.
The Presidency announced on Thursday that the appointment was made in accordance with section 2A(1) of the Public Protector Act of 1994, following a recommendation by the National Assembly.
Adv Dube boasts over 20 years of experience in the public sector, with a strong background in oversight, complaints handling and investigative work. She currently serves as Director-General of the Public Service Commission and previously held the position of Chief Director: Operations in the Office of the Military Ombud.
From 2011 to 2014, she served as provincial director of the Gauteng Office of the Public Protector South Africa. Her career also includes roles in complaints resolution at the former Department of Trade and Industry’s Office of Consumer Protection, as well as service as a legal officer at the South African Human Rights Commission.
President Ramaphosa extended his best wishes to Adv Dube as she takes up her new responsibilities within the Office of the Public Protector, describing it as a vital constitutional institution tasked with investigating, reporting on and remedying maladministration and improper conduct in state affairs.
