Cedrick Nkabinde, chief of staff to the Minister of Police, appeared before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating alleged corruption and political interference in the criminal-justice system. His testimony was halted after MPs accused him of giving contradictory evidence under oath.
Cedrick Nkabinde, chief of staff in the Police Ministry, appeared before Parliament’s ad hoc committee tasked with probing serious allegations of corruption in the criminal justice system. The committee was established to investigate wide-ranging claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
During his appearance, MPs challenged Nkabinde on inconsistencies in his testimony — particularly around his contact with North West businessman Brown Mogotsi. The committee ultimately suspended proceedings, citing his failure to provide accurate and truthful responses, according to chairperson Soviet Lekganyane.
According to the official statement, Nkabinde was unable to “confirm basic calendar details” and claimed his key electronic devices had been confiscated, limiting his ability to verify dates. The parliamentary legal services team has since been asked to advise on potential consequences for his testimony.
