Mapisa-Nqakula corruption case postponed over ill-health
Former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s corruption and money-laundering case has been postponed to 16 September after she was unable to attend court due to ill-health.
The corruption case against former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been postponed to 16 September 2026 in the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria.
The matter was postponed in her absence after her attorney submitted a medical certificate to the court citing ill-health.
Mapisa-Nqakula is facing 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering. She is accused of soliciting R4.5 million, with the State alleging that R2.1 million was received in cash from a service provider.
The case relates to allegations arising from her time as Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. The State has previously alleged that the payments were linked to contracts involving a defence service provider.
The postponement comes after the State closed its case and Mapisa-Nqakula pursued an application in terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act, seeking a discharge.
Her case will return to the Pretoria High Court on 16 September for further proceedings.
