Madlanga Commission rescheduled Carrim testimony after hospitalisation
The Madlanga Commission has postponed Suliman Carrim’s testimony to 29 April after he was hospitalised following a suspected heart attack, with officials citing health concerns and awaiting medical confirmation.
The Madlanga Commission has postponed the scheduled testimony of North West businessman Suliman Carrim to 29 April after he was hospitalised earlier this week.
Carrim had been expected to take the stand on Thursday, but was admitted to Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Monday after allegedly suffering a heart attack at a gym.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that officials had been informed of Carrim’s condition by his legal representatives and would proceed with caution.
“Carrim’s legal representatives have confirmed that he has been hospitalised. From the Commission’s perspective, we are sensitive to that,” said Michaels.
Michaels added that the commission would require a medical certificate to formally verify Carrim’s condition, but emphasised that his health remains the priority.
“It’s evident that he cannot appear if he is in the hospital. The commission would not want to place him under unnecessary strain,” he said.
Carrim’s testimony is considered crucial to the inquiry, as he is expected to address serious allegations relating to his involvement in a disputed police tender.
