Limpopo police have launched a manhunt after a 77-year-old farmer was killed in a violent attack near Baltimore in the Tolwe area. Two intruders tied up his wife before assaulting the farmer, who was found unconscious and later declared dead. A firearm, cellphones and cash were stolen as police continue searching for the suspects.
Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for two suspects after a 77-year-old farmer was killed during a violent attack at a farm near Baltimore in the Tolwe policing area, Capricorn district.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the incident happened on Saturday afternoon when the man left his home at about 4pm to check on his cattle.
While he was out, two men allegedly entered the farmhouse and tied up his wife.
When the husband arrived, he was confronted by the intruders who tied him up at knifepoint and assaulted him and fled after the attack.
Ledwaba said the survivor, the wife managed to report the incident to the farm watch.
"The police as well as neighboring farmers upon reaching the scene they found that the 77 year old was still tied, and laying unconscious. The EMS declared him dead on their arrival at the scene. His identity is still being withheld as part of the ongoing investigation," said Ledwaba.
A firearm, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash were stolen.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has instructed officers to use all available resources to track down the suspects.
