Limpopo and Zimbabwe sign landmark trade agreement to boost cross-boarder business

The Limpopo Economic Development Agency and Zimbabwe's ZimTrade have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening trade, attracting investment and expanding business opportunities between the two regions.

The Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) and Zimbabwe's national trade development and promotion organisation, ZimTrade, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening trade relations and unlocking new business opportunities between Limpopo and Zimbabwe.

The agreement, endorsed by Limpopo MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Dr Tshitereke Matibe, is expected to promote cross-border trade, improve market access and encourage greater economic cooperation between businesses in the two regions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, ZimTrade Chief Executive Officer Allan Majuru described the agreement as a significant step towards deepening regional economic integration.

"This Memorandum of Understanding marks an important milestone in strengthening economic ties between Zimbabwe and Limpopo. It creates a platform for businesses from both regions to explore new markets, investment opportunities and mutually beneficial partnerships," said Majuru.

The signing follows a series of engagements between LEDA and ZimTrade, including a welcome dinner hosted by LEDA for the Zimbabwean delegation at Meropa Casino in Polokwane. The gathering provided an opportunity for both organisations to discuss areas of collaboration ahead of the formal signing of the agreement.

Majuru, who led the Zimbabwean delegation, also pledged that Zimbabwe would extend the same hospitality when a Limpopo delegation visits the neighbouring country in the future.

LEDA Director Alan Baloyi thanked the ZimTrade delegation for their visit and emphasised the importance of the partnership during his vote of thanks.

The MoU is expected to strengthen trade promotion initiatives, facilitate access to new markets, encourage investment and create stronger economic links between businesses in Limpopo and Zimbabwe.

LEDA serves as Limpopo's dedicated economic development agency and was established through the merger of Trade and Investment Limpopo, the Limpopo Business Support Agency, the Limpopo Agribusiness Development Corporation and the Limpopo Economic Development Enterprise.

The partnership with ZimTrade is expected to contribute to regional economic growth, enhance cross-border trade and position Limpopo and Zimbabwe as strategic partners in advancing Southern Africa's economic development agenda.
