Jub Jub released on R5,000 bail aftet urgent High Court application
Television personality and musician Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, popularly known as Jub Jub, has been released on R5,000 bail after the Johannesburg High Court granted an urgent application following his arrest on a charge linked to an alleged firearm-related incident involving an e-hailing driver.
Television personality and musician Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, widely known as Jub Jub, has been released on bail after the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg granted his urgent application on Tuesday.
On Tuesday the Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said Maarohanye was arrested on 14 June 2026 and charged with pointing anything likely to lead a person to believe that it is a firearm.
The charge stems from an incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale. Information presented before the court indicates that police later searched Maarohanye’s residence, where they seized a pellet gun before arresting him.
In his urgent court application, Maarohanye challenged the delay in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on 15 June 2026 and sought to be released on bail pending his first court appearance.
The High Court ruled in his favour on 16 June 2026, ordering his release on bail of R5,000.
The matter has been postponed to 22 June 2026 in the Germiston Magistrates’ Court to allow for further investigation.
In a statement, the NPA noted the court's decision and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the matter is handled fairly, impartially and in accordance with the law.
“The NPA remains committed to ensuring that the matter is dealt with fairly, impartially and in accordance with the law, while safeguarding the interests of justice,” the authority said.
