More than 50 couples are set to exchange vows on Sunday at a mass wedding hosted by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) in Westonaria on Gauteng’s West Rand.
The IPHC has drawn large crowds to the event, with congregants arriving in their distinctive and colourful church uniforms. The Chairperson of the Church’s Executive Committee, Priest A.J. Wessie said the ceremony reflects the church’s values of unity and inclusivity.
Wessie explained that the church embraces gender equality in its marriage traditions, allowing women the freedom to initiate marriage proposals. He noted that female congregants, through their families, are permitted to propose to men, adding that such unions are common within the church and have proven to be lasting and successful.
Earlier this year, in April, the church celebrated a significantly larger mass wedding when more than 1,500 couples tied the knot at an IPHC ceremony in Kanana City, outside Heidelberg in Gauteng.
