Ian Cameron calls for suspension of Major General Feroz Khan following arrest
Portfolio Committee on Police Chairperson Ian Cameron says Major General Feroz Khan should be suspended after his arrest, warning that the case highlights ongoing challenges within SAPS Crime Intelligence.
The Chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, Ian Cameron, has called for the suspension of senior Crime Intelligence officer Major General Feroz Khan following his arrest in May 2026.
In a statement on Wednesday, Cameron welcomed the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) renewed commitment to accountability and the action taken against officers implicated in alleged wrongdoing. He said the same standards should apply to all officers, regardless of rank.
“The intrepidity and swiftness shown by the SAPS leadership in holding officers accountable, irrespective of rank, is commendable. It is for this reason that logic dictates that Major General Khan should also be suspended,” Cameron said.
He argued that any officer accused of breaking the law should be suspended to protect the integrity of ongoing investigations and maintain public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
Cameron stressed that accountability must remain the benchmark for every police officer, regardless of position or seniority. He said consistent and impartial disciplinary action is essential to preserving trust in the police service.
The committee has long maintained that intelligence-led policing is one of the most effective tools in combating crime. Against this backdrop, Cameron described the arrest of a senior Crime Intelligence official as particularly troubling.
“It is for this reason that the arrest of a senior Crime Intelligence officer undermines a strategic pillar of policing. It also exposes the extent of the rot that continues to plague the SAPS Crime Intelligence environment,” he said.
Cameron further emphasized that restoring public confidence in SAPS requires decisive action against corruption and criminality within the organisation’s ranks.
He reiterated that no individual should be shielded from accountability and called for transparent and consistent enforcement of the law to safeguard the integrity of the police service.
