Gauteng police have announced the arrest of the rest of the suspects linked to the Westbury mass shooting, which claimed the lives of two teenagers and injured five other young people last month.
Gauteng's Deputy Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, has announced that the province's anti-gang unit has apprehended three more suspects in the Westbury mass shooting.
This has brought the total number of arrests to five, as the police continue their pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
The chilling mass shooting incident, which unfolded on 21 October 2025, in broad daylight, sent shockwaves across the province when a group of teenagers, aged between 13 and 19, were ambushed inside a home on Croesus Street.
In what has been described as a new wave of teenage gang violence in the area and a brutal display of violence, two young lives were lost, 18-year-old Tigan du Plessis and 17-year-old Diegan Ryters, while several others were left wounded.
The latest arrest has brought the total number of arrests to five in the October shooting of a group of teenagers, in which two were killed and several others were wounded.
Two other men, believed to be the masterminds behind the attack, were arrested earlier, with police spokesperson Brenda Muridili revealing that the three suspects will be joining the first two accused on Thursday, the 6th of November 2025, when they appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
Muridili revealed that the trio, aged between 17 and 20 years old, was arrested on 4 November 2025, after they were brought to the police by their parents and lawyers.
The 17-year-old minor was taken to a place of safety, while the two were immediately detained.
“The 17-year-old has been taken to a safe place as per the Child Justice Act, while the 19- and 20-year-olds have been detained. They are facing two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder,” she said.
The latest arrest comes hot on the heels of last week’s arrest of a 36-year-old male believed to be the mastermind behind the mass shooting, who was meant to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.
