Four people were killed on Sunday in a head-on collision involving two sedans on the R38 between Hendrina and Carolina in Mpumalanga.
According to authorities, the victims include two passengers and a driver from one of the vehicles, as well as the driver of the second sedan, who was travelling alone. All four died at the scene. No other injuries were reported. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly during wet and hazardous conditions.
He said the rainy weather continued to compromise visibility and road grip, increasing the risk of serious crashes.
“We are therefore calling for heightened vigilance and stricter adherence to the rules in order to avoid devastating crashes. Motorists must operate their vehicles in line with prevailing conditions on the road. They must reduce speed and increase following distances,” Macie said.
The provincial authorities have reiterated that road users must remain alert as adverse weather persists across parts of Mpumalanga.
