The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has dismissed its first deputy president, Nolubabalo Mcinga, citing misconduct and holding an unauthorised meeting with former president Jacob Zuma. The organisation says she remains a member pending disciplinary proceedings to determine her future in the movement.
The Afrika Mayibuye Movement (AMM) has officially removed its first deputy president, Nolubabalo Mcinga, following allegations of misconduct and breaches of party protocol.
In a statement released on Friday, the AMM said Mcinga was found to have acted without authorisation when she met with former president Jacob Zuma. The leadership described the meeting as a violation of internal procedures, adding that she also issued statements on behalf of the organisation without approval.
The AMM said Mcinga’s actions amounted to a serious breach of trust and discipline. “The leadership reached a unanimous decision to relieve Mcinga of her duties as first deputy president, effective immediately,” the statement read. “Her conduct undermined the collective authority of the movement and created confusion about its official stance on political matters.”
However, Mcinga has disputed the claims, saying she did not act with ill intent or attempt to form a breakaway faction. She maintains that her meeting with Zuma was personal and not political. “I remain a committed member of the movement,” she said. “The allegations against me are baseless and politically motivated.”
The AMM confirmed that while Mcinga’s leadership role has been terminated, she will retain ordinary membership until the internal disciplinary process is concluded. The party added that the matter would be handled in accordance with its constitution and governance principles.
Meanwhile, Mcinga responded saying that she cannot be condemned for meeting President Zuma : "I respond with truth & courage. I acknowledge the statement of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement & release my official response. I remain a proud member of both the uMkhonto weSizwe Party and the Afrika Mayibuye Movement. I cannot be condemned for meeting uBaba, President Jacob Zuma".
Political analysts said the incident highlights ongoing instability within smaller political movements as they navigate leadership tensions and strategic alliances ahead of the next election cycle. The outcome of Mcinga’s disciplinary hearing is expected to influence how the AMM manages dissent and consolidates its political identity.
