A 74-year-old grandmother who lost her house in a fire has been given a fully furnished new home, restoring hope and dignity for her family.
The Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) has handed over a newly built home to 74-year-old Ugogo Joyce Mjaji and her family in Duduza.
Mjaji lost her home and all her belongings in a fire caused by a candle in December 2025. The tragedy left the family with nothing and in need of urgent support.
The newly built two-bedroom house is fully furnished and includes electricity and running water, offering the family a safe and stable place to live.
The Gauteng MEC of Social Development, Faith Mazibuko attended the handover, describing it as a fresh start for the family. She joined the CMF team in officially presenting the home.
Founder Collen Mashawana said the moment was deeply meaningful, highlighting how the initiative restores hope and dignity. He added that the family will now celebrate Easter in their new home.
The handover marks a new chapter for the Mjaji family, giving them a chance to rebuild their lives after the devastating loss.
